Lyman Ward Military Academy

Lyman Ward Military Academy is a private military school in Alabama. It is also commonly known by its acronym: LWMA.

The school was founded in 1898 for rural youth in Alabama. The original purpose was to offer secondary education, but in 1948 a military department was established.

Soon after the name became Lyman Ward Military Academy and at that time elementary programs ended and it became all boy rather than coeducational.

Tuition for this small 120 student military school is about $17,000. Grades 6 through 12 are offered and about a dozen or so faculty are on staff.

LWMA is accredited by the Southern Association of Colleges and Schools and is competitive in football, basketball, soccer, and baseball.
