South Carolina Military Academies

South Carolina has two military academies: the Camden Military Academy and The Citadel, which is recognized internationally. The Camden Military Academy is located in Camden, South Carolina, which is in the north, central area of the state. It’s an all male school that requires living on-campus during the school year. The all male boarding school educates students in grades seven through 12 and offers small classes for education excellence. Founded in 1892, it’s current operations and curriculum began in 1958. The academy also offers non-military summer programs during two boarding sessions. It also offers a one week camping trip to students in grades six through nine.

The Citadel, which is located in Charleston, is a four-year college program that accepts male and female students. It’s a state-sponsored military academy. The on-campus academy offers undergraduate- and graduate-level degree programs in business administration, engineering, education, humanities, social sciences, mathematics and sciences. The Citadel is highly-recognized because of its excellence in education, its small classroom sizes and its retention rate of freshman, which ranks high among nationally. It also takes pride in being a national leader, because of its high number of female student athletes playing sports at a varsity-level.
