Texas Military Academies

Texas Military schools are privately run based on tuition that rivals university level costs and are located in hill country of southeast Texas. The schools themselves are run as private college preparatory secondary schools with a military emphasis. Marine Military Academy is located in Harlingen, approximately thirty miles from the Gulf coast. Founded in 1965 on a closed military base, this school receives students from grades eight to twelve and offers a one year post graduate study program. This school is founded on traditional United States Marine ethics and ideals but has no official affiliation with the Corps. The Marine Military Academy utilizes a traditional secondary education sequence and offers it’s student duel credit opportunities for college credit while in high school. Further west lies the San Marcos Baptist Academy in San Marcos which is also known as the San Marcos Academy. Founded in 1907 this school is religiously based and services youths from seventh to twelve grade, with a student population of approximately three hundred. The San Marcos Baptist school gets it’s military roots beginning at the start of World War 1, the federal government granted the academy a junior unit of the Reserve Officer Training Corps.

Southwest of San Marcos lies the Metropolitan city of San Antonio and the TMI- The Episcopal School in Texas. TMI holds the title as one of the oldest episcopal schools in the southwest and the oldest independent schools in Texas, founded in 1893. TMI was originally founded as a school for boys and changed into the West Texas Military Academy. The academy maintains approximately four hundred students mostly from the south Texas and Northern Mexico but has students form all over the United States as well as other South American countries and offers both a religiously and educationally structured day.
