John Carroll University, in University Heights, has the top ranked ROTC program in Ohio. Cadets at John Carroll University get unsurpassed leadership training. Students also have the benefit of attending a religious school.

The University of Akron also has an Army Reserve Officer Training Corps program. Cadets in the Ohio Volunteers Battalion spend their free time conditioning for physical fitness and training for leadership roles.
