West Virginia Military Academies

West Virginia, in the heart of Appalachia, is home to various military schools. Students enjoy all of the outdoor recreation opportunities that West Virginia has to offer. From fishing and hiking to rafting and skiing, there is something for everybody. Choosing a military academy in West Virginia means students can enjoy year-round outdoor sports.

Marshall University, in Huntington, offers students an Army Reserve Officer Training Corps program. The Thundering Herd Battalion focuses on academic achievement and physical fitness. These cadets are encouraged to work toward leadership positions.

West Virginia University, in Morgantown, offers both Army and Air Force ROTC programs. Students in both programs will focus on academics and leadership development. Army ROTC cadets will generally study military science. Air Force cadets will spend more time studying aerospace science.

Fairmont State University also offers an Air Force Reserve Officer Training Corps program. Scholarships may be available for cadets to help pay for tuition, books and living expenses. Cadets will need to commute to West Virginia University to take their ROTC courses. They are able to take their regular classes at Fairmont State University. Time management becomes an important asset for students making the drive.
