Indiana Military Academies

The state of Indiana has two military schools and multiple ROTC programs. The Howe School and Culver Academies have been training young people since the late 1800s. Indiana has a long history of training youth and can boast of some famous graduates from its military schools. Alumni from Culver Academies include New York Yankees owner George Steinbrenner III, movie critic Gene Siskel and auto racing legend Roger Penske.

Both of the military schools in Indiana are now coeducational. The Howe School, which is the older of the two, accepts cadets starting in middle school. Culver Academies is only a high school. However, both schools offer summer camps where younger children can have fun while they gain leadership skills and self-discipline that is expected from a military school. Summer camp at The Howe School is only for boys. Culver Academies opens their summer camp experience to girls and boys ages 7-17.

Parents of children in Indiana military schools have the option of day school or boarding school. Both options have advantages, so whether a family chooses boarding or day school is purely a personal decision. Children who attend military boarding school get complete immersion into their studies, whereas day school students go home after school activities every day.
