Maine Military Academies

Maine’s only military academy in the state is Maine Maritime Academy, located in Castine. It’s south, central campus location is along Maine’s beautiful coastline. Founded in 1941. The academy stared by offering three-year education programs and has grown to offer 17 undergraduate and graduate majors in engineering, marine transportation, business and science. The college accepts men and women, as well as international students. All students must meet the admission requirements. The Academy is a residential college with plenty of on-campus activities.

Like all military academies, the Maine Maritime Academy instills strong self-discipline and leadership qualities in their students. Some of the Academy’s coursework and degree programs are accredited by the Technology Accreditation Commission and the Engineering Accreditation Commission. Some programs also meet international standards and are approved by the United States Cost Guard. Students who attend the academy receive practical training aboard ships and vessels.

The school estimates a 95 percent job placement rate of its students in marine and ocean industries. The also Academy offers continuing education classes for graduates and its extended community of ocean and maritime professionals in the area. Continuing education includes general studies, certification, as well as STCW approved training programs.
