Alabama is home to a variety of exceptional military schools. Lyman Ward Military Academy is an all boy boarding school located in Camp Hill, Alabama. The academy was first founded in 1898 by Dr. Lyman Ward and the military department was added in 1948. Lyman Ward Military Academy offers academic opportunities, as well as extracurricular activities and many sports. Cadets can participate in color guard, rifle team, drill team and bible study.

Marion Military Institute is located in Marion, Alabama that was granted charter in 1889. This co-ed college has produced more than 205 Generals and Admirals for the United States Armed Forces. Marion Military Institute offers students excellent academic opportunities, as well as baseball, tennis, basketball, wrestling and softball.

Those interested in sending their teenagers to a Catholic school must consider St. Bernard Prep, located in Cullman, Alabama. This co-ed boarding school and day school provides academics that revolve around the Catholic faith. Enrolling students for grades 7 – 12, St. Bernard Prep is operated by the Benedictine Monks who strive to provide high quality academics with a variety of extracurricular activities such as swimming, cross country, volleyball, soccer, tennis, track and field and baseball for both male and female students.
