The University of Akron’s Army Reserve Officer Training Corps unit is known as the Volunteer Battalion. Cadets in the Volunteer Battalion work hard to make the most out of their college experience. Becoming a leader in the U.S. Army is the culmination of hard working cadets’ collegiate efforts. There are many different scholarship options for students interested in becoming second lieutenants in the U.S. Army.
Students are required to maintain good grade point averages to stay in the ROTC program. In addition to grades, students must also participate in the physical fitness program. Cadets are prepared mentally and physically for the tough military lifestyle. Leadership skills are developed during mandatory leadership laboratories. The University of Akron produces second lieutenants that are fully equipped to handle the military lifestyle.
