Students at Illinois State University participating in the Reserve Officer Training Corps program get more than the traditional college experience has to offer. Students prepare physically and mentally for the challenges of leadership. There are so many extracurricular activities to help cadets become better leaders as well. Physical fitness standards are an important component of the ROTC program.

There are various opportunities for students to sharpen their basic infantry skills. Competitive cadets will enjoy training for the annual Ranger Challenge. The Ranger Challenge consists of various events aimed at testing basic infantry skills. Events include marching, first aid, land navigation and even a rope bridge. Weekly leadership laboratories help students understand the fundamental elements in leading soldiers. Illinois State University cadets can expect to commission fully prepared for the military lifestyle.
