The South Dakota School of Mines and Technology is home to the Mount Rushmore Battalion, an Army Reserve Officer Training Corps unit. Cadets in the Mount Rushmore Battalion are expected to keep a high academic standard of excellence. Students who are majoring in subjects like science and engineering can also add military skills to their college education. Classes in leadership development are part of the ROTC curriculum.
