The University of South Dakota in Vermillion, South Dakota has an Army Reserve Officer Training Corps program. Students have the option of taking the two or four year program. There are scholarship opportunities available for both options. There is a special program for cadets that are interested in pursuing a degree in nursing. In addition to academics, cadets are expected to develop leadership skills and stay physically active.
Weekly leadership laboratories are a great place for students to develop their skills. They are also given the chance to improve their basic infantry skills during field training exercises. Combat water survival is one of the many classes students get to enjoy outside of the traditional classroom. Cadets in the ROTC program are held to a higher academic standard than elsewhere on campus.
