Maine Maritime Academy is located in Castine, a small seaside town 35 miles south of Bangor. The 35-acre campus is located next to Castine Harbor. The 800 students are taught by 64 full-time faculty, 28 part-time adjunct instructors and 26 part-time staff adjunct instructors. Maine Maritime offers 13 majors. The 92,000-volume Nutting Memorial Library serves as a learning venue and resource for students.
In-state tuition is $8,600, and out-of-state tuition is $18,000. Students from other New England states may receive a reduced rate, depending on the student’s home state and chosen major. The cost for on-campus room and board is $9,320, and the accumulated cost of required fees is $2,905.
Maine Maritime sponsors 15 athletics teams at the NCAA Division III level. The football team plays in the New England Football Conference, and the rest of the Mariners teams participate in the North Atlantic Conference.
The school was created on March 21, 1941, and it opened on Oct. 9 of that year with 29 students reporting for classes. The Academy grew significantly throughout World War II, and 384 Maine Maritime graduates served in that war.
