Founded in 1889, the New York Military Academy (NYMA) is a private military boarding school in Orange County, New York. The school was founded by a Civil War veteran named Charles Jefferson Wright. He believed the military structure offered the best chance at academic achievement.
The school has faced challenges recently in terms of enrollment and funding and held its last graduation in 2010, but alumni and local businesses raised money to keep the doors open.
Grades 7 through 12 are offered at this 88 acre campus. The school’s mascot is the Knights and Maroon is the school color. Cadets compete in 16 different interscholastic sports.
