Middle Tennessee State University in Murfreesboro, Tennessee has an Army Reserve Officer Training Corps program. Cadets are encouraged to utilize their self-discipline to excel academically. Students interested in the ROTC program can apply for scholarships which cover books, tuition and fees. Many scholarships even include a monthly living allowance.
Students are expected to meet the physical fitness standards of the Army. Cadets that want to go above and beyond the minimum standards may prepare themselves for the annual Ranger Challenge. Cadets get the opportunity to sharpen their leadership skills during weekly leadership laboratories. Field training exercises help to reinforce troop leading tactics taught during class.
