Established in 1839, the Virginia Military Institute is the South’s premier military college. Enrollment at VMI is similar to what you will find at most colleges and universities. Transcripts and test scores are required along with a $40 non-refundable application fee.
Tuition at VMI is $ 6,622 per year for Virginians and $25,602 for non-Virginians. Room and board is $7,446 per year for all cadets.
In addition to tuition and room and board, VMI charges an auxiliary fee and a quartermaster’s fee. The auxiliary fee is $3,862 per year for all cadets while the quartermaster’s fee is $2,700 per year for all cadets. For new cadets, there is a $200 security deposit, and each cadet is responsible for buying his or her own textbooks.
Those who decide to attend VMI will follow in the footsteps of some of America’s greatest military heros. Generals George S. Patton and William C. Marshall were both VMI alumni.
