Military Schools in New York
New York Military Academies
New York’s two military academies include a secondary and college-level educational program. It also has two colleges that are federal service academies operated by the federal government: the United States Merchant Marine Academy and the United States Military Academy. New York Military Academy is a private academy located in Cornwall-on-Hudson, New York and is a co-educational program. It educates students in grades seven through 12 and was founded in 1889. The State University of New York Maritime College, more commonly referred to as SUNY Maritime offers four-year college programs, co-educational and a residential college. It’s located in Throgs Neck, New York. Both private academies are accredited by several commissions.
The federal service academies in New York are two of only seven in the United States. The United States Merchant Marine Academy, which focused on education related to water transportation, is located in Kings Point. The United States Military Academy focuses its education on serving the military and is located in West Point. Both of these educational institutions require students to fulfill their service duties after graduation by either serving in the military or working for as a cilivian for an employer approved by the United States federal government.
