New Mexico State University in Las Cruces, New Mexico is home to the Bataan Battalion, an Army Reserve Officer Training Corps unit. The Bataan Battalion focuses on Army values while shaping cadets into future leaders. Students complete the basic course of the ROTC program during their first two years. The advanced course begins junior year. Students who enter the ROTC program in their junior year must attend a Leader’s Training Course in Fort Knox, Kentucky to catch up with other cadets.
Students in the ROTC program spend time learning about military science and leadership. Physical fitness and academic standards must be met year round. New Mexico State University instructors focus on preparing cadets for their upcoming careers in the U.S. Army.
