Franklin Military Academy, located in Richmond, Virginia, is now situated in its fourth location since its establishment as the first public military school in the nation in 1980. Students who choose Franklin Military Academy as an alternative to a regular public high school are given a normal high school education while simultaneously participating in the Junior Reserve Officer Training Program to prepare for a military career.
Franklin Military Academy provides a unique educational experience for Richmond students. With a teaching ratio of 15 to one, students are offered specialized instruction and rarely drop out or transfer from Franklin Military Academy. Cadets are required to wear a military uniform to school every day and must fill out an application to be accepted into the Franklin Military Academy. Beginning in 2004, Franklin Military Academy added education programs for students interested in becoming police officers or firefighters.
